BDF Litigates and Educates about the Deceptive Missouri Cloning Amendment
Missouri Proposed Constitutional Amendment 2, commonly referred to as the "Stem Cell Amendment," should be opposed by people of good conscience on November 8, 2006. Learn about the 3 D's of this Deception:

1. DECEPTION. The ballot language that Missouri citiznes will see in the voting booth contains the blatant deception stating that it would "ban human cloning." The reality is that the so-called "Stem Cell Amendment" would enshrine 5 pages of text into the Missouri Constitution that creates a constitutional right to clone human embryos for the purpose of their destruction. No civilized society should create a constitutional right to use human lives as raw material for science experiments. This is a clear violation of the human dignity that is owed to every human life, especially the least amongst us.

2. DAUGHTERS. Missouri Proposed Amendment 2 puts our daughters' health at serious risk. Human cloning to harvest embryonic stem cells will require millions of human eggs. These eggs will be used by researchers to create the cloned human embryos that will be destroyed for their stem cells. In states like California and New Jersey where embryo cloning is practiced without legal restriction, college girls are soliticited with thousands of dollars to become so-called "egg donors." While the research facility claims that they don't pay for the eggs, this amendment specifically states that fertility clinics will be able to pay women for their expenses and lost wages. Cash-strapped college women -- your daughters -- would be offered thousands of dollars to be injected with high doses of hormones so that they produce many eggs in one month. The woman must then undergo laproscopic surgery for the batch of eggs to be removed. The medical risks of this procedure include future infertility due to ovarian twisting, and even death in some cases due to kidney failure or other complications. The daughters of Missouri should not be exploited as egg farms.

3. DOLLARS. The third major problem of Amendment 2 concerns Missouri citizens' tax dollars. The amendment expressly states that once these provisions are in the Missouri Constitution, no future law can ever in any way restrict funding that would benefit the embryo cloning research. Amendment 2 will clear the way for mandatory taxpayer loans to clone.

Deception, Daughters and Dollars. This unholy trinity behind the seductive hype of Amendment 2 requires our close attention. People for Life are for cures, not clones. We are for the real treatments of ethical adult stem cells.
